An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Style A One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) A New Grantland Rice Sportlight, the 1949 Paramount Grantland Rice sports highlights short ("Your Ringside Seat Where Sports History is Made!"). Note that this is a stock one-sheet that was sent to theaters showing these sports highlight newsreels. There is a rectangular box in the bottom left where the theater could write in the name of the specific short being shown. Note that the one-sheet has great artwork images of basketball, football, and baseball players, as well as horse racing and swimmers diving into a pool. Note that Grantland Rice was a famous sports writer of the 1920s, who produced 164 sports short subjects in the 1920s and 1930s. The IMDb does not show him as having produced sports highlights reels in the 1940s (except for two single titles in 1943 and 1945), so it is quite possible that his name was used on this series, but that he was not actually connected with them. Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had small paper loss at the crossfolds and minor wear on the foldlines. It had a brown stain in the top right white background area and a few dot stains in the title area. It had some pinholes around the edges, and slightly uneven darkening in the borders. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above, but they are really not very distracting (and a talented restorer could touch them up without re-backing the poster).
