An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 22") (Learn More) Bolero, the 1934 Wesley Ruggles romantic dancing musical ("His dancing partners were but stepping-stones to fame!"; "Based on an Original Story by Ruth Ridenour"; a wild story of a conceited male dancer who stops at nothing to become famous, firing a string of female partners along the way, but then he meets beautiful Lombard, who quits him, and he is devastated, but he opens his own nightclub, and convinces her to dance the Bolero with him, even though she has since married a British nobleman, but she doesn't know that he now has a heart condition, and doctors have told him that if he ever dances again, he will die, but he dances with her anyway, and makes it through the dance, but then dies in his dressing room!) starring George Raft, Carole Lombard, Sally Rand ("The Fan Dancer", who re-creates her famous fan dance in this movie!), William Frawley, Frances Drake, and Ray Milland. Note that it seems that Paramount wanted George Raft and Carole Lombard to be a dance team like Astaire and Rogers at RKO, and this picture WAS a big hit, and there was another dance movie with the same stars called "Rhumba", but there were no others, probably because both stars were too busy making movies of other types. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards. Condition: good. The card was found inside of a frame as a backing board and the entire top blank area, plus the top 1" of the image had been trimmed off, as well as 2" from the left side of the card. This affected the very top of Raft's hair, the top third of his top hat, and on the left, it affected his arm and the edge of his coat, and the edge of Lombard's dress. The rest of Lombard's image was not affected. A very talented restorer paperbacked the card and re-created the missing top 1" of the image and the missing left 2", using a complete example of the card as a guide. They did it extremely well, and I think many people would not realize the extent of the restoration unless it was specifically shown to them. But please do not bid on this card unless you have carefully read the above and can accept the extensive restoration this card has had. Learn More about condition grades
