Date Sold 7/18/2013Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 12 1/2" x 18 3/4" [32 x 48 cm]; 8 pages) (Learn More) Charlie Chan at the Olympics, the 1937 H. Bruce Humberstone Asian detective Berlin Germany sports crime mystery thriller ("Murderous spies invade Olympic games!"; "A new world's record for thrills ....even for Chan!"; "Based on the character 'Charlie Chan' created by Earl Derr Biggers") starring Warner Oland (in the title role as Charlie Chan), Katherine DeMille, Pauline Moore, Allan 'Rocky' Lane, Keye Luke (as Lee Chan), C. Henry Gordon, Jonathan Hale, and Morgan Wallace. Note that the events in this movie take place at the infamous 1936 Berlin Olympics, where Adolf Hitler presided over the games, hoping they would prove Germany's Aryan superiority, but of course, exactly the reverse occurred! Also note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! Important Added Info: Note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook (if the back cover is not the poster page, we photographed the interior poster page), and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners purchased pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: very good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut. It was folded across the middle at one time, but otherwise, it is in pretty nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
