A 1922 Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Swedish Movie Poster (measures 23 1/2" x 35" [60 x 89 cm]) (Learn More) His Picture in the Papers, the 1916 John Emerson silent romantic crime slapstick comedy (a truly wacky story of a strapping young man whose father owns a health food empire, based on vegetarianism, but the son is a meat eater, so he and his father have nothing to do with each other!; but the son wants to marry a young woman, and her father will only agree if he has a half interest in his father's company, so he begs his father to do so, and his father agrees, but only if he can "get his picture in the papers"; he does all kinds of publicity stunts, including beating up a champion boxer, but none of them get covered by the newspapers, until finally, he happens to see a group of crooks robbing a train by causing a derailment, and that makes him a national hero, and he is on the covers of all the newspapers, and his father gives him the half interest and he is able to marry his girl) starring Douglas Fairbanks Sr., Loretta Blake, Clarence Handyside, Rene Boucicault, and Jean Temple. Note that some really major names were involved in this movie! It was produced by D.W. Griffith, co-written by Anita Loos, who also wrote "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes", and one of the assistant directors was Erich von Stroheim! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Hakansson Important Added Info: Note that this was one of the movies Douglas Fairbanks made in the middle 1910s that helped make him a major star. But after he had gigantic hits like "The Mark of Zorro" and "The Thief of Bagdad" in the early 1920s, many of his 1910s movies were re-released in the early 1920s. This poster is dated 1922, and we have found evidence that the movie was first released in Sweden in 1917, which would make this a 1922 re-release. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had minor fold and border wear. It had a long tear beginning near the center of the top border, running down the left of the "H" of "HUSTRU" and down vertically in the background below the "l" of "Douglas", and turning into the bottom of the camera where it ends. The tear had no paper loss, and otherwise, the poster was in nice condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
