Date Sold 12/5/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Alice in Movieland, the 1928 Charles Mintz silent Hollywood California fantasy movie-making comedy short starring Marion Mack, Gloria Swanson, Ricardo Cortez, Eugene O'Brien, Ben Turpin, Creighton Hale, Hank Mann, and Blanche Payson. Note that there is virtually no information about this movie on the Internet. We found the above cast list in a fine book about Ben Turpin by Steve Rydzewski. He does not say, but we would think it is extremely likely that Swanson, Cortez, and O'Brien had cameo roles as themselves, and that it is extremely likely that this movie was a parody of Alice in Wonderland, with Mack entering "Movieland" and meeting real life stars. We strongly suspect this is a lost film, but we have not found confirmation of that. If anyone knows more about any of this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also note that this was Marion Mack's last film before retiring and becoming a screenwriter. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that first release 1928 movie paper from this comedy short is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned ANY movie paper from this until we received this one-sheet! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had tears and areas of paper loss scattered down the vertical fold, extending into Turpin's cheek and part of his ear, and also in the letters in the bottom center. It also had paper loss in the left of the bottom horizontal fold, extending into the top of the letters there. Other than thea bove paper loss the poster was in surprisingly nice condition prior to linenbacking, but because of the paper loss, it was in "fair" condition prior to linenbacking. A really talented restorer did a wonderful job replacing the missing areas down the center and in the left of the bottom horizontal fold, and I feel certain that almost any person would not realize this poster has had the restoration it has had, even looking at it from close up. This incredibly rare poster will display well on the new owner's wall, but bear in mind the restoration it has had before bidding on it. Learn More about condition grades
