Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Chapter 7 One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) The Haunted Valley, the 1923 George Marshall silent cowboy western mystery adventure serial ("Thrills! Romance! Adventure in the West!"; "Produced by The Ruth Roland Serials, Inc.") starring Ruth Roland, Jack Dougherty, Francis Ford, Eulalie Jensen, and Aaron Edwards. Note that Ruth Roland was second only to Pearl White as being best remembered from silent serials of the 1910s. She started in movies in 1909, but in 1915, after the great success of White's "The Perils of Pauline" the previous year, Roland starred in her own 14 episode serial called "The Red Circle", and she went on to make six more serials for Pathe. After 1925, she only appeared in three more movies, returning to the stage where she had performed before entering movies. She passed away in 1937 from cancer, at just 45 years of age. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Shortly after it was printed, the three sections were glued together onto a brown "kraft" paper (this is called "kraftbacking"). This was commonly done in the 1920s to help posters stay in one piece as they traveled from theater to theater. This poster is one of 9 posters that were recently discovered under a floor of a very old house (in the 1920s it was common for builders to use old movie posters as insulation between walls and under floors!). THIS POSTER HAS MAJOR CONDITION DEFECTS, WHICH SHOULD BE EVIDENT FROM THE IMAGE BELOW. It can be professionally restored, but that can take a fair amount of money, so bear the restoration costs in mind BEFORE you place a bid on this item! Condition: good. Because this poster spent the last 70+ years under a floor of a house, it has considerable damage (see the image below). A talented professional restorer can easily remove the poster from its kraft backing, but to then restore the damaged and missing areas might take a good amount of time and money, so bear that in mind BEFORE you place a bid. Of course, realize that this may well be the only surviving example of this poster, so you may not have the option of waiting for a better example to come along! see major defects!
