Date Sold 8/20/2015Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. A 1937 Re-Release Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 9 3/4" x 12 3/4" [25 x 32 cm]) (Learn More) It Happened One Night, the classic 1934 Frank Capra (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) runaway-heiress-with-undercover-reporter-who-are-complete-opposites-but-fall-in-love-anyway romantic screwball comedy ("Together for the first time!"; "From the Cosmopolitan Magazine story by Samuel Hopkins Adams"; "Screenplay by Robert Riskin"; winner of the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Clark Gable (winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Claudette Colbert (winner of the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Walter Connolly, Roscoe Karns, Alan Hale Sr., Ward Bond, and Jameson Thomas. Note that this is a wonderful movie that contains many memorable scenes (perhaps most notably when Gable "instructs" Colbert on how to hitchhike), but it is also memorable for the scene where Gable reveals that he was not wearing an undershirt, which caused undershirt sales to plunge nationwide, and they never recovered! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this lobby card has been trimmed and it now measures 9 3/4" x 12 3/4" [25 x 32 cm]. Condition: fair. Someone took the card and very neatly cut off all four borders and then mounted it onto a mat with glue. The card was removed from the mat, but there are brown glue stains over the entire back of the card and it has darkened the card somewhat. There is a 1" x 2" area on the back of the card (in the background just to the left of the top of Gable's pants, extending into the edge of his pants) where someone roughly removed tape from the back of the card, and caused much surface paper loss there. The paper is extremely "thin" in that area, and there are a couple of dots of tiny paper loss in the center of that area and a small tear in the left of that area. Certainly, this card has many real defects and is in MUCH lesser condition. But it is also true that any talented restorer could remove the glue stains from the back, bleach the card somewhat, and paperback the card replacing the borders, and after proper restoration, the card will likely look great without requiring much paint restoration. But please do not bid on this card unless you have read the above carefully and can either accept its many defects, or are willing to pay to have them properly restored!
