Date Sold 9/24/2024Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Folded Special Movie Poster (measures 51" x 78 3/4" [130 x 200 cm]) (Learn More) Jerry's Uncle's Namesake, the 1914 Sidney Drew silent comedy short starring Sidney Drew, Louise Beaudet, L. Rogers Lytton (in the title role as Jerry's Uncle), Kate Price, and William Shea. Note that Sidney Drew was the brother of famed stage actor John Drew Jr., who never made any movies, and he was the uncle of John, Lionel, and Ethel Barrymore. The Barrymore siblings were told by their grandmother that he was adopted, but they felt that was not a true story, due to a great family resemblance. He started in movies around 1913, when he appeared in a number of "Jerry" comedies (about a man and his relatives), and he made a large number of movies until his passing in 1919, and once he was married, he often appeared with his wife as "Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Drew". After his first wife died in 1914, he quickly married again, this time to a woman less than half his age, named Lucille McVey. She quickly used her husband's connections to start producing, directing, and starring in comedy shorts, billed as "Mrs. Sidney Drew" (which the first Mrs. Drew had also been billed as). Sidney Drew passed away in 1919, and Mrs. Drew passed away six years later. Note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Harry Bedos Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We never before auctioned ANYTHING from this movie until we received this poster, which not only stars Sidney Drew, but also is directed by him! Not only that, but it is only the second poster from any of the "Jerry" movies in this series that we have ever auctioned. Note that this is a VERY unusual poster from the early 1910s! In the earliest days of movie distribution, the studios (especially The Vitagraph Company) temporarily hit on the idea of creating one poster for use in several European countries, and to make that work, they put the title of the movie in three different languages at the top of the poster! The languages are Italian, German, and French. This is a rare opportunity to purchase an extremely early movie poster! Condition: fair. The poster is fragile and there is darkening on the folds and staining scattered on parts of the back and some of it shows through to the front. There are also tears and areas of paper loss on parts of the folds and borders. Please bear all of this in mind before bidding on this extremely rare poster. Learn More about condition grades
