An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Stock One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

Smile Please, the 1924 Roy Del Ruth silent romantic photography crime comedy short ("Mack Sennett's Latest and Greatest Comedy find Harry Langdon and the 1924 Bathing Girls in 'Smile Please'"; "Lillies of the Alley."; produced by Mack Sennett) starring Harry Langdon, Jack Cooper (not to be mistaken for Jackie Cooper, the famous juvenile actor in the 1920s and 1930s! Jack Cooper was an English actor from the 1910s to the 1940s who worked in the U.S. and was featured in Hal Roach and Mack Sennett movies in the 1920s), Madeline Hurlock, Jackie Lucas, Alberta Vaughn, and Cameo the dog. Note that the three-sheet poster for this movie has a great stone litho image of photographer Harry standing in front of an early 1920s camera, taking a family portrait of a husband, wife, child, and dog. Also note that, in an odd twist of fate, Harry Langdon's son, Harry Langdon, Jr., is a world renowned celebrity photographer, and is described on his website as being "a modern day Michelangelo and master craftsman with the camera". One wonders if the younger Langdon got his inspiration for entering his profession from this movie of his father's!

Important Added Info: Note that this is a "stock" poster created by Pathe for use by theaters showing their 1920s Mack Sennett movies. Theaters would order this poster, which had a large blank area at bottom right. Sometimes the studio would overprint the stock poster with the title of a specific movie, and sometimes they were sent a series of large paper snipes with the titles of specific entries of the series, so the theater could paste in each snipe as needed, thus getting many posters for the price of one. Sometimes stock posters are found with blank snipe areas. Most collectors consider them more valuable with a printed snipe attached, or with an overprinted snipe area (this poster was overprinted with the title "Smile Please"). Note that, because this is a "stock" poster that was used for all Mack Sennett shorts, the image is NOT of any particular Sennett comedy star, but instead is a great stone litho image of a bunch of sexy girls wearing what were then incredibly skimpy costumes!

Condition: good to very good. There are tiny areas of paper loss along the foldlines.
