eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 4r124 HARDER THEY COME British quad R77 Jimmy Cliff, Jamaican reggae music, cool Bryant art! Date Sold 4/9/2009Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Undated (probably 1977) Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Unfolded British Quad Movie Poster (BQ; Quad Crown; measures approximately 30" x 40") (Learn More) The Harder They Come, the classic 1973 Perry Henzell Jamaican reggae music action crime thriller ("With a piece in his hand He takes on the man!"; "He makes woman and the charts and is on top with both."; "Rebel WITH a cause!!"; "Be warned: This is more than a film made for lovers of reggae, much more.") starring Jimmy Cliff (the famous reggae music singer), Janet Barkley, Carl Bradshaw, Ras Daniel Hartman, Basil Keane, and The Maytals. Note that this low budget movie was given a U.S. release in 1973 with two very strange one-sheets: one advertised it as a "blaxploitation movie" (very deceptively) with art by John Solie, and the other was a bland "reviews" one-sheet with very little image. But then the movie proved to be a cult hit, and the following year it was given an arthouse release by Reel Theatre, along with a one-sheet with a striking image of Jimmy Cliff singing into a microphone. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: John Bryant Important Added Info: Note that the person who originally designed this poster tells us that it was made for the late 1970s re-release of the film (the designer says likely between 1977 and 1979, and the BBFC states 1977) from the original British quad's design, adding their company logo of "Lagoon" and the tagline at left, "Now-Original Uncut Version". We have never seen the first release English poster, so if anyone has an image or further details about either the re-release poster we are offering or about the first release poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that it is clear that the original release poster is apparently beyond rare (because no one seems to have ever sold it). Condition: very good to fine. The poster was never folded. There were some creases around the edges. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
