An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Style B One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Sands of Iwo Jima, the classic 1950 Allan Dwan World War II (WWII) United States Marine Corps (USMC) military action thriller ("A great human story... Makes a mighty motion picture!"; "The Marines have landed... And the situation is well in hand!"; "The Marines' Greatest Hour!") starring John Wayne (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), John Agar, Adele Mara, Forrest Tucker, Wally Cassell, James Brown (NOT the famous singer!), Richard Webb, Arthur Franz, Julie Bishop, James Holden, Peter Coe, and Richard Jaeckel NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: very good. This poster was linenbacked, and one of the following is true: either the poster had minor defects, and was well backed, OR it had more significant defects, but they were extremely well restored, OR it had some very minor defects that were not completely restored, and are somewhat noticeable. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). Note that we gave this condition grade to a very few posters that were in pretty good condition prior to linenbacking, but which were not all that well linenbacked, and which could be fairly easily re-backed with only minor additional restoration. The poster had a dime-sized area of paper loss just to the right of the top crossfold (solely in the background area) and tiny paper loss at the other two crossfolds. There were some tiny horizontal tears down the entire vertical foldline and a 4" tear in the right edge of the center of the image entering the "F" of "OF" and the very top of the "A" of "JIMA". There were smudges, pinholes, some stains, and some small tears in the blank borders. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was well backed (the restorer used a fair amount of paint over the white borders to "even them out"), and looks great! Learn More about condition grades
