Auction History Result Lot #: v021 FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLF MAN insert '43 Lugosi Date Sold 12/17/2005Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. Appears in Vintage Hollywood Posters 9 CATALOG SOLD OUT The image at right appears in the auction catalog we published as shown above and was sold long ago and we do NOT have it available for purchase. An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36") (Learn More) Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man, the 1943 Roy William Neill Universal monster horror thriller (the fifth Universal Frankenstein movie) starring Ilona Massey (as Baroness Elsa Frankenstein), Patric Knowles, Bela Lugosi (in the title role as the Frankenstein Monster), Lionel Atwill, Maria Ouspenskaya, Rex Evans, Dwight Frye, Lon Chaney Jr. (in the title role as the Wolf Man; "Lon Chaney in his most terrifying role"; "Lon Chaney as The Wolfman"), Dennis Hoey, Jeff Corey, Doris Lloyd, Adia Kuznetzoff, Martha Vickers (billed as "Martha MacVicar" in her first movie), Gil Perkins (who doubled for Bela Lugosi in some action scenes), and Eddie Parker (who doubled for Lon Chaney Jr. in some action scenes). Note that in this movie, Bela Lugosi took over the role of the Frankenstein monster which had been played by Lon Chaney Jr. in the previous movie, because Lon Chaney Jr. reprised his role of the Wolf Man, which he had created in the 1941 Universal classic! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: good. The poster had rough creases along the foldlines and scattered defects throughout the poster, including creases, tears, and small areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster, extending into the image. It appears that the person who did the restoration chose to completely paint over most of the solid colored areas including all of the solid blue background areas, the blue clothes of the Frankenstein monster, the yellow letters of the title, and the white letters of the credits. There was much touch up in the clothes of the Wolf Man, in the green background above his head, and in his leg. The poster HAS had a great deal of restoration, but it IS an original poster, and it would be great for someone looking to buy an original poster from a great horror title who can accept considerable restoration (or the buyer can have it entered in one of those auctions that don't mind being deceptive about the condition, or who has difficulty spotting restoration). The poster is difficult to find in any condition, and it displays well! Learn More about condition grades
