A 1948 Realart Re-Release Vintage Theatrical 8 1/4" x 10" [21 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More)

The Bride of Frankenstein, the classic 1935 James Whale Universal monster horror thriller sequel ("The Monster Demands a Mate!"; "The monster thriller"; "Who will be The Bride of Frankenstein. Who will dare?"; the second of the Universal Frankenstein movies, and the only example I am aware of where a sequel is clearly superior to the original movie!; this is James Whale's masterpiece, and almost everyone agrees it is among the finest movies ever made, regardless of genre) starring Boris Karloff (as the Frankenstein monster), Colin Clive (as Dr. Henry Frankenstein), Valerie Hobson (as the bride of Dr. Frankenstein), Elsa Lanchester (in the title role as the bride of the Frankenstein monster, and also as Mary Shelley!), Una O'Connor, Ernest Thesiger (as Dr. Pretorius), E.E. Clive, O.P. Heggie, John Carradine, Dwight Frye (as Karl), Gavin Gordon, and Neil Fitzgerald

Important Added Info: Note that this still comes from a scene that was cut from the movie, and it has caused a massive amount of speculation among horror fans. In this scene, Frye is coming at Hobson (who plays Colin Clive's wife) with a knife, and many fans have assumed this meant that he kills her and that is where he gets the heart that Clive puts into the bride (and backing up this theory is the strange attraction that Lanchester shows to Clive after she rejects the monster). But of course, in the final print of the movie, Hobson's character is alive at the end! How can that reconcile with the theory that she was killed to get the heart? Because those fans think that in the original ending of the movie, she does not show up at the castle, and Clive is killed together with Thesiger (and it seems incredibly coincidental that she happens to show up at that moment). They speculate that the studio realized that they would surely make a third movie and that they wanted to keep Clive alive, so they added footage of Hobson showing up so that he could live (but ironically, Clive died before the third movie could be made, so they changed it so that the star was his son, all grown up). Of course, this is all theory, but it is fascinating, and it DOES explain what this still means! Also note that this still has a stamp on the back that indicates it came from the legendary horror/sci-fi collection of Ron Borst (the stamp reads "FROM THE COLLECTION OF Ronald V. Borst")! Also note that this still measures 8 1/4" x 10" [21 x 25 cm].

Note that this still has a stamp on the back in the form of a diamond that has "TRR" running down the center. One certainly might wonder who placed this stamp there and why. The answer is that the still (and many others we are auctioning in this set of auctions) come to us from a still collector who has collected for many decades, and long ago he began stamping the back of his stills with this stamp, and "TRR" is his initials! Each of the stills is stamped lightly, and the stamp does NOT affect the front of the still. He is a VERY advanced collector, and he has consigned many wonderful stills to us!

Condition: very good. There are some faint creases and scuffs scattered around the edges of the image and in the borders.
