Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Danish Movie Poster (measures 24 1/4" x 33 1/4") (Learn More) Return of the Scarlet Pimpernel, the 1937 (released in the U.S. in 1938) Hanns Schwarz English France spy espionage melodrama sequel ("Once again his daring deeds set the heart of the world aflame!"; "Hated by every man...loved by every woman...yet none know who he is. The phantom adventurer returns... more reckless, more daring than you've ever seen him before!"; similar to "Zorro", The Scarlet Pimpernel was a mild-mannered English lord who transformed into the hero The Scarlet Pimpernel, and no one suspected him because the two men were so different; this was a sequel to "The Scarlet Pimpernel", made in 1934 with Leslie Howard in the title role; it seems likely that Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster must have seen the first Scarlet Pimpernel movie prior to creating Superman, for Clark Kent certainly owes much to Percy Blakeney!) starring Barry K. Barnes (in a dual role, as both The Scarlet Pimpernel and Percy Blakeney), Sophie Stewart, Margaretta Scott, James Mason, and Frances Lister NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: K. Wenzel Important Added Info: This Danish poster measures 24 1/4" x 33 1/4" and is linenbacked. Condition: very good. This poster was linenbacked, and one of the following is true: either the poster had very minor defects, and was well backed, OR it had more significant defects, but they were well restored, OR it had some minor defects that were not completely restored, and are somewhat noticeable. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). The poster was folded twice horizontally and once vertically. There was minor wear along the foldlines and minor border defects. The poster was well backed. There is a censor stamp in the lower right corner which the restorer left alone and there is a tiny area above the "MP" of "PIMPERNEL" in the title which is slightly lifting from the linen (any restorer could easily re-glue that without re-backing the poster).
