Date Sold 10/25/2022Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 12" x 18" [30 x 46 cm]; 16 pages). Also included is a herald that has 4 pages. (Learn More) Dick Tracy's G-Men, the 1939 John English & William Witney detective action mystery crime serial ("A Republic Serial in 15 Chapters"; "All New Action - All New Thrills!"; "Based on the famous cartoon strip by Chester Gould") starring Ralph Byrd (in the title role as Dick Tracy), Irving Pichel, Ted Pearson, Jennifer Jones (later a world famous actress, but here billed under her given name of "Phylis Isley"; in her second movie!), Walter Miller, and Edmund Cobb. Note that this was the third Dick Tracy movie! It is surprising that it took six years for it to reach the screen in 1937's "Dick Tracy", but once it did, it proved very popular and was followed by three more serials over the next four years, and then after a four year break, the first Dick Tracy feature film was released, which again proved extremely popular, and there were three sequels to that. There were animated cartoons on TV in the 1950s and in 1990, Warren Beatty made a live action movie! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this 1939 first release pressbook! Also note that when studios would prepare pressbooks they would often include a sample of the herald. Most often, the herald is no longer still with the pressbook. Sometimes, the herald by itself will sell for almost as much as the rest of the entire pressbook! This pressbook contains the original herald that was included with it, and it is pictured next to the pressbook below. Also note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook, and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners received pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: very good to fine, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut. It was once partially folded across the middle. The herald, which is not tipped-in, is in excellent condition!
