Date Sold 7/30/2017 Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. a lot of 10 Charlie Chaplin Red Letter photocards. We know that there were originally at least 29 of these 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" "Red Letter Photo Cards", which were distributed in conjunction with Red Letter Magazine, an English movie magazine, which was published from 1899 to 1988. These cards show scenes from films that Charlie Chaplin made at Essanay Studios in 1915, so it is extremely likely that they were made that year, or very soon after. We don't know how these cards were distributed or used. They resemble postcards (and are on a similar heavy paper stock), but they have no printing on the back, and are blank there, so we don't know what people did with them (besides possibly collecting them). The reason we know there were at least 29 of these is that in 2017, we were consigned a set of 29 of them from a collector in England, and those were the first of these we had ever seen, and they auctioned for $207. Now we have been consigned 10 of these cards, and these came to us from a different collector in an entirely different country!
