The Penguin Pool Murder, the 1932 George Archainbaud murder mystery crime thriller comedy ("This old maid school teacher jumped from a classroom to a courtroom, and solved the mystery that baffled the New York police."; "You'll just DIE! laughing at this crime thriller"; "A story that is positively killing!"; "From an original story by Lowell Brentano and Stuart Palmer and a novel by Stuart Palmer") starring Edna May Oliver (as Hildegarde Withers), Robert Armstrong, James Gleason (as Detective Oscar Piper), Mae Clarke, Donald Cook (best remembered for playing James Cagney's disapproving older brother in "Public Enemy"), and Clarence Wilson. Note that this was one of a series of six very popular detective comedies starring a female detective named Hildegarde Withers, who assists a police detective named Oscar Piper. This was the first movie in the series, and Edna May Oliver played her in the first three movies, and then Helen Broderick played her in one, and Zasu Pitts in the final two. James Gleason played Detective Piper in all six movies.
