An Original Vintage Folded Dutch World War II Poster (measures 21" x 30 1/2" [53 x 77 cm]) (Learn More) Zelfbescherming (literally translates to "Self-Protection"), the 1944 Dutch World War II (WWII) poster (with a tagline that translates to "Visit the exhibition in the Knights' Hall from January 31st to February 6th") created by the Nazi German-occupying forces to encourage people to protect themselves with bomb shelters, and featuring Guust Hens art of a terrified woman and child, the silhouette of a bomber and a bomb shelter. Artist: Guust Hens Important Added Info: Note that this is one of a remarkable collection of 14 posters that were printed in Holland during World War II while they were occupied by Nazi Germany. They are all propaganda posters designed to sway the Dutch people to support the Nazis and fear the Allies. These posters are surely incredibly rare (since any surviving ones would have likely been destroyed soon after Holland was liberated, and in addition, there were huge paper shortages at this time. We are auctioning the 14 posters in 14 separate auctions. This is an extremely rare opportunity to purchase one or more of these extremely rare posters, which likely should be displayed in museums. Also note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: very good.
