An Original Vintage Theatrical Deluxe English Oversized Movie Still (measures 12" x 15" [30 x 38 cm]) (Learn More)

Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy (Laurel & Hardy) were one of the greatest comedy teams of all time from the 1920s to the 1940s. While they both had solo work (Hardy was a top star in the 1910s, and Laurel was becoming a star in the mid 1920s, but then they joined forces and became superstars!), they are best remembered as a team, and some of their movies include: Sons of the Desert, The Music Box, Way Out West, Big Business, Helpmates, Tit For Tat, Towed in a Hole, Them Thar Hills, and Liberty. Laurel passed away in 1965 at the age of 74, and Hardy passed away in 1957 at the age of 65. In 2019, a film biography, "Stan & Ollie", starring John C. Reilly and Steve Coogan, was released, and while it did what most film biographies did, which is to play fast and loose with the truth, it was generally very well received and one can only hope it will cause new generations to seek out this classic duo's wonderful movies (both features and shorts)!
Important Added Info: Note that this English still, printed on double weight paper stock, measures 12" x 15" [30 x 38 cm]. It pictures Laurel & Hardy when they visited Southend in England in 1952 (a book was written about it called "A Spot of Trouble in Southend"). This still has a stamp on the back from the Bernard Delfont Agency Ltd., and an English photographer credit on the front, so this would have been issued to the press in England in 1952. We previously auctioned two similar English stills that measured the same as this one, but had different images, but we feel certain they are also from this same English trip (and the consignor of those two stills had purchased them from Stan Laurel's daughter, Lois, and it seems quite likely that Jan Wahl (see below) also purchased this from Stan's daughter.

Note that this is from a remarkable collection of movie memorabilia that originated from the estate of the late Jan Wahl. Mr. Wahl wrote over 100 children's books and received many awards, including the Coretta Scott King Prize. Throughout his career, he had a great love of film, and he collected many items from directors and movie stars he loved. Most of them were framed on the walls of Mr. Wahl's house! This is a rare opportunity to purchase a great vintage photo from that has a wonderful provenance!

Condition: good to very good. There is small paper loss in two corners and some minor wear around the edges. The still was framed, and there are glue stains on the back of each corner and on the back of the center, but they do not affect the front.
