Important Added Info: Know that this movie was of course one of the most successful of all time, and because of this, it was re-released many, many times to theaters, both in the U.S. and in other countries. There was a U.S. re-release in 1946, and it had a set of lobby cards, but we have not seen a poster from that release. This poster is dated 1947, and it is rare (we have only auctioned it twice before), and we have never seen any other movie paper from that release (of course, it is possible that the 1946 re-release was carried over into 1947, but paper from either of these re-releases is definitely scarce, even more scarce than the original 1933 movie paper! If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and tiny tears and tiny bits of paper loss on the vertical foldline, with fine surface paper loss and a few tears on the horizontal folds. There was a 12" tear in the left of the top border extending down the enter of Kong's face into his nose. There were many smudges, scuffs, creases, and stains scattered in the image, with pinholes, tears, and stains around the edges. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was backed with only slight attempts at restoration and no excess.
