An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Forty by Sixty Movie Poster (measures 40" x 60") (Learn More) Rebel Without a Cause, the classic 1955 Nicholas Ray romantic troubled teen family relationship melodrama ("The reception committee for the new kid on the block!"; "The overnight sensation of 'East of Eden' becomes the star of the year!"; "Warner Brothers put all the force of the screen into a challenging drama of today's juvenile violence!"; "Warner Bros'. challenging drama of today's dammit, juvenile violence!"; "...and they both come from 'good' families"; "Their families gave them everything -but a good example!"; "This is Jim Stark, teenager --from a 'good' family--"; "He was new on the block, the pretty girl belonged to the leader of the gang, and the leader of the gang called him 'chicken' to his face..."; "This is how a teen-war starts!"; "Jim Stark - a kid from a 'good' family - what makes him tick... Like a bomb?") starring James Dean ("The star sensation of 'East of Eden'!"), Natalie Wood (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), Sal Mineo (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), Jim Backus, Edward Platt, Dennis Hopper (in a bit part as one of the "goons"), Ann Doran, Corey Allen, William Hopper, Jack Grinnage, Frank Mazzola, and Ian Wolfe NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Also note that posters one-sheet size and smaller from this classic James Dean movie, while not easily obtainable, can mostly be located. But posters larger than a one-sheet are extremely rare, especially the 40x60 poster, which was printed on a heavy paper stock. It is likely that few theaters ordered it, and it is also likely that very few survive! NOTE THAT THIS POSTER WILL NEED TO BE SENT IN A VERY LARGE TUBE, WHICH WOULD BE VERY DIFFICULT TO SEND OUT OF THE UNITED STATES. It would have to go by air freight, and would likely cost at least $200, so please bear that in mind before you bid, if you live outside the United States and need to have it delivered outside the United States. Condition: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking and restoration, there was major paper loss down the right 5" of the poster (the poster was not cut, so it was not exactly 5", but close to that amount down the whole border). VERY fortunately, this mostly only affected the right edge of the blue and yellow backgrounds, and the white blank border. The right edge of the "S" and the entire "E" of "CAUSE" in the title needed to be completely re-created, but otherwise, only blank areas were re-created. The bottom credits area of the poster (the part beneath the image of Dean) had many stains, smudges, scuffs, and creases, and the entire yellow background area has been re-painted, and much of the lettering has been touched up to varying degrees. The inset image has had virtually no restoration, and looking closely at it, you can see many scuffs, but they are not very distracting at all. The top of the poster (with the exception of the right 5") was fortunately in pretty nice condition. There has been some slight touch up in that area, but really surprisingly little. So the poster has had lots of restoration in the bottom and right, and little restoration in the top image and tagline. The restoration was extremely well done, and I think few people would see much difference between the unrestored areas and the restored areas, even if it was pointed out to them. I would think any collector would be proud to display this great poster on their wall, but please do not bid on this poster unless you have read the above carefully, and have carefully looked at our image of the poster. Note that the poster was paperbacked on to a heavy backing. The poster was rolled in an extremely wide tube and sent to us direct from the restorer. The poster received a 5" crease in the middle of the right border when it was rolled (but it is truly barely noticeable at all). If the new owner of the poster wishes, we will send the poster to the restorer first, who can repair this crease, and then re-send the poster to the new owner. Learn More about condition grades
