An Original Vintage Studio Brochure (measures 9 1/4" x 12 1/4" [23 x 31 cm]; 16 pages) (Learn More)

MGM 1939-40, the 1939 16-page studio brochure ("The cornerstone of 11,000 theatres!"; "Strength! Security!") announcing films that MGM had upcoming in 1939 and 1940, including 24 books and plays that MGM had bought the rights to, and they pictured the covers of those books and playbills. They also had a 2-page spread of the many wonderful stars MGM had under contract. They have three pages of brief summaries about their upcoming releases. What seems incredibly odd to us, since this was clearly prepared at least halfway through 1939, is that they give no better coverage of either Gone with the Wind or The Wizard of Oz, compared to the many other movies they cover! Surely they at least knew that one of these would be a giant hit, but yet there was no significant promotion for either (see our images). This brochure was printed and distributed direct to theaters, but it likely was also included in exhibitor magazines as a supplement. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this studio brochure!
