And the master of a hundred screen triumphs..."; "Set you afire with romance and a-tingle with thrills.."; "The glamorous, titian-haired star of 'Gay Divorcee' and 'Roberta' joins hands with the master of all screen sleuths in a sparkling, mystery drama breathless with thrills ..."; "From the Novel by Arthur Somers Roche"; it has a lot of similarities to MGM's "The Thin Man", which also starred Powell; here he is an attorney who solves crimes, and he has a high society beautiful girlfriend who wants him to marry her) starring William Powell, Ginger Rogers, Paul Kelly, Gene Lockhart, Ralph Morgan, Leslie Fenton, J. Farrell MacDonald, and Vivien Oakland NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that first release posters from this Ginger Rogers/William Powell movie are extremely rare. We have only auctioned a very few of them. We have once before previously auctioned this insert (four years ago), but that was the exact same example we are offering here (it has been re-consigned), so this is still the only example of this poster we have auctioned! Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Note that because this poster was paperbacked onto a thicker paper backing, it CAN'T be sent rolled (someone could conceivably roll it or try to do so, but we think it would almost certainly damage it, so we will only send it in a large flat package, unless the buyer insists, and then they would be responsible for any damage). Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had the usual three horizontal folds and was pretty fragile. It had paper loss at the left ends of the top and bottom horizontal folds, but very fortunately, it was completely in the borders and solid colored background areas. There was also small paper loss at the right end of the bottom foldline (solely in the blank border), and paper loss in the bottom right corner that went into the solid black background, and into the writing in the box in the bottom right corner. Finally, there was some small paper loss in the left of the top blank border and in the top right blank corner. The above areas of paper loss only slightly affected the image (as described above), but there was a water stain in the left of the top horizontal fold that extended into Rogers' hair, and a similar water stain in the left of the bottom horizontal foldline that extended into the left edge of the bottom tagline. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was given to a really top restorer who paperbacked it onto a thin paper backing, and carefully and expertly restored the missing paper areas described above (mostly blank paper) and expertly touched up the two water stained areas, and replaced the tiny bits of background area and the writing at bottom right. The restorer did NOT paint over the defects in the image area, so you can see slight signs of the fold restoration and the slight scuffs and smudges scattered in the image, but in every way, this poster looks and feels like an unrestored insert, and I know most people could not pick out the restoration that has been done, and the poster will display wonderfully on anyone's wall!
