eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result DEVIL MONSTER 1sh R30s Lease from Hershenson/Allen ArchiveA 1930s Re-Release Vintage One-Sheet Movie Poster (Learn More) Devil Monster, the 1935 S. Edwin Graham Mexican/U.S. romantic tropical South Seas island ocean action thriller ("Daring adventure man's love for a woman"; "Man's sacrifice for a woman's love!"; "Mammoth killer of the sea"; "It's weird fantastic romance of the sea"; "Titanic undersea thrills! A man dares death for the woman he loves! Daring Primitive Love! Punch packed South Sea adventure! Octopus vs. Moray Eel fight to death!"; "A mighty South Sea epic where men risk their lives for a woman's love"; apparently, some obligatory naked native girls were thrown in as well, which no doubt helped the box office immensely!) starring Barry Norton, Jack Del Rio, Blanche Mehaffey, J. Barton, Terry Grey, Mary Carr, and "With An All Star Cast". Note that this is a very confusing movie! The IMDb lists it as having been made in 1946, but they seem to be clearly wrong. It was actually made in 1935 as a Mexican/U.S. co-production, and it was made both as "Devil Monster" (directed by S. Edwin Graham), and also simultaneously as "El Diablo Del Mar" (directed by Juan Duval). This movie was a popular roadshow movie of the late 1930s, often under the title "The Great Manta". It appears that it was also released under different titles, including "Monsters of the Sea", in either the late 1930s and/or the early 1940s. In the late 1940s, it was shown as part of a double-bill with the 1945 movie "The White Gorilla". If anyone knows more about this movie or any of its re-releases, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also note that Mary Carr became a major star in the mid 1910s around the age of 40, playing the parts of saintly mothers. She continued to make movies (switching to grandmother roles) through the mid 1930s, and then continued with mostly uncredited parts until the mid 1950s. She passed away in 1973 at the age of 99!
