An Undated (probably 1938) Re-release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Tombstone Canyon, the 1932 Alan James cowboy western action mystery romantic melodrama starring Ken Maynard, Tarzan (billed as "and his wonder horse Tarzan"), Cecilia Parker, Sheldon Lewis, Frank Brownlee, Bob Burns (billed as "Bob 'Bazooka' Burns", in a very minor role), and Lafe McKee NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a very odd poster! Bob Burns was a well known musical comedian of the 1930s. He created a character called "The Arkansas Traveler", a hillbilly-like guy with many wacky relatives, and he always played a homemade horn-like instrument called the "bazooka" (and he was often referred to as "Bob Bazooka Burns"). He appeared with Bob Crosby's band in the 1930s, which led to 12 movie appearances, always in character. He was married to fellow hillbilly Judy Canova from 1936 to 1939. He DID appear in this movie "Tombstone Canyon", but in a bit part at the beginning of his career. The poster kind of looks like a "stock poster", but it is clearly Ken Maynard in the inset images at bottom, so it would seem that this was part of some kind of re-release of Bob Burns movies (probably in the late 1930s), which would make this poster incredibly deceptive advertising! To add to the mystery, there was a different actor in the movie also named Bob Burns, but he was a stuntman who never had much of a career! If anyone knows more about this unusual poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had extra creases and tears on parts of the foldlines. It had many tears around the edges of the top half of the poster and many smudges in the upper yellow background area, with writing on the back of the top center that slightly bled through to the front. It had two areas of paper loss in the upper right blank border. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Learn More about condition grades
