An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Man of Conquest, the 1939 George Nichols Jr. Texas historical War of Independence biographical cowboy western ("America-First, Last-Always!"; biography of Sam Houston; the movie includes Houston's failed attempt to save the men of the Alamo) starring Richard Dix (as Sam Houston), Gail Patrick, Edward Ellis (as Andrew Jackson), Joan Fontaine, Victor Jory (as William B. Travis), Robert Barrat (as Davy Crockett), Robert Armstrong (as Jim Bowie), C. Henry Gordon (as Santa Ana), George 'Gabby' Hayes, Ralph Morgan (as Stephen Austin), Janet Beecher, Billie Benedict, "and a cast of thousands". Note that Sam Houston had a fascinating life (both in politics and personally), and it is fair to say he was one of the most colorful politicians ever! He did far too much for us to summarize here, but we urge you to seek out his biography on Wikipedia. Note that Mr. Houston is dressed as a Native Indian for part of this movie, which may seem like the movie producers took liberties with Houston's life. However, in real-life he was adopted by Chief John Jolly and thus made a member of the Cherokee tribe, and lived with them for a length of time! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: good. The poster has several scuffs and smudges scattered in various areas (especially at top). There are a few tears of varying lengths around the edges. Please see our super-sized image to get a good sense of the condition of this item prior to placing a bid. Learn More about condition grades
