An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) The Clutching Hand, the 1936 Albert Herman serial science fiction (sci-fi) masked super villain crime mystery thriller serial ("A Craig Kennedy Thriller in fifteen chapters from the novel by Arthur B. Reeve") starring Jack Mulhall, William Farnum, Ruth Mix (daughter of Tom Mix, who appeared in around a dozen movies, starting as a teenager), Marion Shilling, Yakima Canutt, Rex Lease, and Mae Busch. Note that the IMDb says that the official title of this movie is "The Amazing Exploits of the Clutching Hand", but we have never seen any movie paper with that title (but it apparently does exist on some film prints). Also, like many other serials of the time, a feature version was created by editing the chapters of the serial into a 74 minute movie which had the same name as the serial and was also released in 1936. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this one-sheet, which is the one-sheet for the entire serial. There would have also been one-sheets for each individual chapter, but we have never auctioned any of those (although we have auctioned many lobby cards from individual chapters). We have also auctioned a one-sheet that is full-color and appears to be for the entire serial, but it lacks the "In Fifteen Chapters" that is on this poster (and it has a completely different image). We think that one-sheet without the information about the chapters is from a "feature" version of this serial, but we can't say for certain, because we haven't found reference to it on the Internet, and we have not seen other poster material for it. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had two evenly spaced vertical folds instead of the usual one. It has some small bits of paper loss on parts of some folds and many pinholes and small areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster, but those are in the blank borders. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above.
