Date Sold 8/14/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Herald (measures 4 1/2" x 6" [11 x 15 cm]; 4 pages) (Learn More) The Hot Heiress, the 1931 Clarence G. Badger romantic comedy musical ("She gave up her coming out party for a going out party"; "Original Story by Herbert Fields"; "Music and Lyrics by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart"; about a poor riveter who falls in love with a rich heiress, and she has to take him home to meet her family) starring Ben Lyon, Ona Munson, Walter Pidgeon, Tom Dugan, and Thelma Todd. Note that this musical had songs by Rodgers & Hart, and unfortunately, it was not successful (so much so that Rodgers & Hart, who had signed to make three musicals for First National, were let out of their contract after this first one!). Note that Walter Pidgeon was born in 1897, and started making silent movies in the mid 1920s, but he had limited success. He had a wonderful speaking voice, but that did not lead to stardom in early sound movies. Finally, in 1937, at the age of 40, MGM put him under contract, but still limited him to supporting roles. His "big break" finally came in 1941 with "How Green Was My Valley", and he became one of MGM's top stars of the early 1940s (no doubt helped by so many other male stars being away at war). He stayed with MGM for the remainder of his career. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Condition: very good. Learn More about condition grades
