Blondie on a Budget, the 1940 Frank R. Strayer romantic love triangle comedy ("Cheer up! Compared to Dagwood... you're doing wonderfully!"; "An 'oomph' gal is after him! Blondie's leaving him... for Reno! He buys champagne --and daisy drinks it!"; "An old flame singes Dagwood... While Blondie Burns!"; "Balance your fun budget!"; one of the highly successful series of "Blondie" movies; based on the classic Blondie comic strip by Chic Young) starring Penny Singleton (in the title role "as Blondie"), Arthur Lake ("as Dagwood Bumstead"), Larry Simms ("as Baby Dumpling"), Rita Hayworth ("Stunning Rita Hayworth helps make it The Best Of The 'Blondies'"; in an early role as a sexy woman who tempts Dagwood), Danny Mummert, and Daisy (the dog). Note that at this time, Columbia recognized what an asset Rita Hayworth was, and even though she was not yet a major star, they "found" parts for her in many of their movies in the late 1930s and very early 1940s (she had roles in an amazing 30 movies between 1937 and 1942!).
