He was one of the two main caricature artists who worked for MGM from the 1930s to the 1950s (the other was of course Al Hirschfeld). His art was created in a most unusual way! He would create actual collages out of pieces of paper, and then they would be photographed (sometimes his collages were 3-dimensional!). His artwork is very distinctive and immediately recognizable. His caricature art promoted top MGM movies of the 1940s including: Silk Stockings, Designing Woman, Best Foot Forward, Presenting Lily Mars, and Two-Faced Woman, among many others! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The poster had darkened somewhat and there were stains scattered throughout. It had small paper loss at the crossfolds, and some separation and small tears on parts of the foldlines, with pinholes in the corners. Overall, the poster was in fair condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Note that the restorer who mounted the poster did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster. Please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept its defects described above or are willing to pay to have further restoration performed. Learn More about condition grades
