An Original Vintage Theatrical 6 1/2" x 8 1/4" [17 x 21 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) The Mark of the Vampire, the 1935 Tod Browning horror thriller ("You will not dare believe... what your eyes see!"; "These two strange symbols meant 'marked for death'!"; "Important! Do not divulge the secret of 'Mark of the Vampire' to your friends... let them by mystified... and thrilled!"; based on the story 'The Hypnotist' by Tod Browning; about a father and daughter vampire team in an unnamed European country, and naturally, wherever they go, people are found dead) starring Lionel Barrymore, Elizabeth Allan, Bela Lugos (as Count Mora)i, Lionel Atwill, Jean Hersholt, Carroll Borland (as Luna, a female vampire; Borland was a huge Lugosi fan who wrote a script intended for him and appeared in this movie with him, which was only one of six movies she appeared in!), Holmes Herbert, and James Bradbury Jr. Note that director Tod Browning had incredible success with Dracula in 1931, but Freaks in 1933 was a major failure (at the time), and he was trying to regain his former glory with this movie, which was very loosely based on another major success, London After Midnight, which starred Lon Chaney Sr.! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: The still likely originally measured 8" x 10". It appears to have been used in a Spanish magazine or newspaper, and they mounted the still to a backing and glued a clipping from the newspaper or magazine to the back of that. Apparently, at some later date, someone tried to remove the paper backing, and when they saw it was removing part of the back of the still, they stopped. Note that this still has been trimmed and it now measures 6 1/2" x 8 1/4" [17 x 21 cm]. Condition: fair. The still was used in a newspaper or magazine (see above). It had been trimmed, and someone put grey paint around the outer edges, to create a thin "border", and they also put grey paint in the background area above the stars, and a slight amount on their features (to make them show up better). It had been mounted to a stiff backing, and someone removed some of it, which caused some small tears in the borders, so they stopped doing that (see our images of the front and back). Obviously, this great still has substantial defects, so look closely at our super-sized image and read what we wrote above before placing a bid on it. Learn More about condition grades
