An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Washington Merry Go Round, the 1932 James Cruze United States capital political corruption melodrama ("Daring expose that will rock the nation!"; "It rips the lid off!"; "Story by Maxwell Anderson"; about an honest congressman who is newly elected, and is shocked to discover all the corruption in Washington; Columbia would revisit this exact plot in the classic "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" in 1939) starring Lee Tracy, Constance Cummings, Walter Connolly, Clarence Muse, Arthur Vinton, Frank Sheridan, and Berton Churchill. Note that Columbia bought the rights to a best-selling book, but then solely used the title and hired great screenwriter Maxwell Anderson to completely rewrite the story. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: This poster is incredibly rare. We had only auctioned a one-sheet and several lobby cards from this movie other than this single half-sheet, which we auctioned it in 2011. The person who purchased it in that auction has now re-consigned it to us, so it is still the only half-sheet from this movie we have ever auctioned! Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had many defects, but it had never been folded. It had scattered brown stains in the top quarter of the poster, and also brown stains and nail holes around the edges. It also had tears and tiny areas of paper loss around the edges, with larger surface paper loss in the lower left border, mostly in the blank border, but slightly extending into the edge of the Columbia logo. There were some smudges and scuffs scattered in the image. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was nicely backed by a really talented restorer, and it looks and displays great, although you can see slight signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
