An Original Vintage Exhibitor's Magazine (measures approximately 9" x 12") (Learn More)

Motion Picture Herald, the leading trade magazine sent to movie theater owners in the 1930s to the 1960s (we don't know exactly when it started publication, but we think it was in 1931, and we know it continued until at least 1967). Each magazine measures approximately 9" x 12", and each contained around 70-100 pages. Each weekly issue would be filled with illustrated articles about upcoming movies, statistics about box office grosses of current releases, and sometimes articles about coming developments in motion picture technology, and sometimes sections illustrating how theaters advertised current movies. Of greatest interest to collectors are the advertisements (some full-page) from all of the major studios! A few of these ads were full-color. Note that these exhibitor magazines were ONLY sent to theater owners, and the general public never had a chance to buy them. But most theater owners treated them like old newspapers, throwing them away after the movies had played. Consequently, they are extremely rare, especially those from the 1920s and 1930s! Note that we do not have the time to list the contents of each magazine we are selling (this magazine does not have a "table of contents", and of course, the most interesting part of the magazine is the great illustrated ads), but we have pictured the cover, and one or more interior 2-page spreads. We tried to pick out some of the more interesting interior pages, but we did not spend much time doing so! Each of these magazines, which were NOT printed on newsprint, and were printed on quality paper, is packed with very interesting visual and written material, almost all of which has not been seen since the date the magazine was published. We doubt anyone who buys these magazines will be disappointed by the content! Note that this magazine continued to be published into the 1970s, but it slowly lost page count and quality over the years. The issues in the 1950s-1970s were generally around 30-50 pages, and at some point during those years, the magazine became first bi-weekly, and finally, monthly.
Important Added Info: Note that this issue is missing both the front and back covers. However, it does have a really great two-page ad for "Frankenstein"! I bet the buyer of this issue will likely take out the Frankenstein ad and sell it by itself! Also note that this exhibitor magazine (and the other exhibitor magazines we are selling this week) were sent to theater owners, who thoroughly went through each issue, to decide what movies to book for their theaters. Consequently, the magazines have a "used" feel to them, and are not in "mint" condition! We have checked each magazine to see if it has missing pages, and have noted the ones we have found. Unless otherwise noted, we believe this magazine is complete and uncut, and is generally in "very good" condition. Note that these magazines had square spines, and is quite common for those spines to have small paper loss at the top or bottom, and sometimes be cracked. We have not noted minor defects in these magazines. Please do not bid on these magazines expecting them to be in unused condition. If you are like most collectors, and can accept some minor defects, you are likely to be very happy with any of these magazines!

Condition: good. This vintage movie paper item (or related movie memorabilia) is in from somewhat lesser condition (what most collectors might call "good to very good" or "good") to clearly lesser condition (what some collectors might call "fair" or "poor"). The item offered here has defects typical of many items that are up to 100 years old! Some are mainly only in the borders or on the covers (if it is an item with multiple pages), so it is likely that the item can still be displayed and enjoyed. Please look at our "super-sized" image, as it will greatly help you know what condition this item is in! But also remember that some of these items have defects that may not be seen from our images (either because we did not photograph every part of the item, or because they are the sort of defect that is not easily seen). Please do not bid on this item unless you can accept the defects that it has! But also know that we were extremely harsh in grading these items we are currently selling, because we wanted our buyers to be at least satisfied when they received their purchase, and possibly overjoyed! We downgraded many items to this lower condition grade because they had defects that are enough that we would not grade them as "very good", but we would still think many collectors would be happy with those items. If our super-sized image seems to be in nicer condition than you would expert the item to be in, know that it is likely a result of our having graded these items so harshly!
