An Undated (probably 1950s) Re-release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked German Movie Poster (measures approximately 23" x 33") (Learn More) Orphee (released in the U.S. as "Orpheus"), the classic 1950 Jean Cocteau French romantic fantasy (re-telling the classic fable of Orpheus and Eurydice, but set in modern day France, about how a man does not let even Death separate him from his beloved) starring Jean Marais (in the title role as Orphee/Orpheus), Francois Perier (as Heurtebise), Maria Casares (likely best remembered for her role as Death in this movie, where she played all her scenes with her eyes closed and with "eyes" painted over her eyelids!), Marie Dea (as Eurydice), Henri Cremieux, Greco, Roger Blin, and Edouard Dermithe NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Hans Hillman Important Added Info: This German poster measures approximately 23" x 33" and is linenbacked. Condition: very good. This poster was linenbacked, and one of the following is true: either the poster had minor defects, and was well backed, OR it had more significant defects, but they were extremely well restored, OR it had some very minor defects that were not completely restored, and are somewhat noticeable. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). Note that we gave this condition grade to a very few posters that were in pretty good condition prior to linenbacking, but which were not all that well linenbacked, and which could be fairly easily re-backed with only minor additional restoration. The poster had creases along the foldlines. There was tiny paper loss in the "H" of "ORPHEE" in the title. There were some very minor border defects.
