An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 13 1/2" x 21 1/2" [34 x 55 cm]; 32 pages). Also included is a production handbook that has 16 pages (see below) and a 1-page "correction" supplement and a 1-page herald (called a "study guide herald" and has "facts" about the movie) (Learn More) Walt Disney's 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, the classic 1955 Richard Fleischer Walt Disney underwater science fiction (sci-fi) scuba diving adventure thriller ("The Mightiest Motion Picture Of Them All!"; "Based on the novel by Jules Verne") starring Kirk Douglas, James Mason (as Captain Nemo), Paul Lukas, Peter Lorre, Robert J. Wilke, Ted de Corsia, and Carleton Young. Note that the studio claimed that Kirk Douglas did all of his scenes himself, refusing a stunt double, even for the "thrilling and dangerous underwater scenes"! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is a very rare pressbook! We have only auctioned one uncut one before. In addition, this one has a special "study guide" herald (which the other one did as well), but it also has a 16-page "handbook of production information", and also a 1-page "correction" sheet (because they had made the names of the director and writer too small on the newspaper ads, and they were telling the newspapers to make those names larger!). Note that pressbooks were prepared prior to a movie being released. Often, changes would be made in a movie advertising campaign (billing of actors, different images, etc.), and the theaters would print up special supplements that they would send out with the pressbooks that had already been printed. These supplements are very rare, far more rare than the pressbooks themselves! Some pressbooks would have no supplements, some would have one, and some would have several. Also note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook, and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners purchased pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: fair, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut. Unfortunately, all the pages have staining and mildew across the top of all pages and a lesser amount down the right side, and there is also some on the herald and supplements as well (see our images). Also, the pressbook is folded down the middle, and there are creases and scuffs on that fold, and around the edges of the covers. Learn More about condition grades
