An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 21 3/4" [36 x 55 cm]) (Learn More) Pick a Star, the 1937 Edward Sedgwick movie-making acting musical comedy ("'So many women are crazy about me!'"; "'You're not hurt-and I can give you a job!'"; "'I'm directing this picture, no you!'"; "'This will teach you to mind your own business!'"; "'You're as good as a movie star already!'"; "Hollywood's gayest night spot... scene of Joe's Waterloo!"; "'Come on Stan, Let's finish this scene!'"; about a country girl who comes to Hollywood to be an actress, and Hal Roach had his top stars Laurel & Hardy appear in sequences about the making of a movie!; produced by Hal Roach) starring Patsy Kelly, Jack Haley, Rosina Lawrence, Mischa Auer, Lyda Roberti, and Stan Laurel, and Oliver Hardy (billed as "also Stan LAUREL, Oliver HARDY"). Note that Laurel & Hardy appeared in this movie as a favor to producer Hal Roach (who had launched their career as a comedy team), and agreed to low billing, and to appear in a corner of the advertising, because their presence and their billing at that time was sure to greatly enhance the box office of this movie! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned two examples of this window card, and one of those has been reconsigned to us, so this is still only one of two examples we have ever auctioned! Note that the card measures very slightly under 14" x 22" (an extremely tiny amount in each direction!) and has no left, right, or bottom blank borders, but it has NOT been trimmed (this was done at a time when MGM was experimenting with having as few borders as possible). Condition: fair. There is paper loss in the bottom left corner. The top of the card had play dates on it, and someone painted over that area with white paint, and then painted "Friday" in red paint on it (they were clumsy and got white paint in three places near the bottom of the right border). There is a vertical line of scuffing starting between the "K" and "A" of the title, and running straight down to the bottom border, and very fortunately, it goes between the images of Laurel and Hardy. There is similar scuffing in the left border of the image. The card was once partially folded across the middle of the letters of "PICK A" and there are creases in that area. There are some other stains scattered throughout the card (see our image). Fortunately, this great and rare card has defects that respond well to restoration. Surely, much or all of the paint can be removed chemically, and the scuffing will need to be touched up, but much of it is in background areas. But please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept its defects described above or are willing to pay to have them properly restored. Learn More about condition grades
