Note that when this movie was made, Charlton Heston had had some leading roles, but he was still second billed to Eleanor Parker. But after he made The Ten Commandments, The Big Country, and especially Ben-Hur in 1959, he was a superstar, and this movie was re-released in 1960 with Heston getting top billing (and a giant image on the posters).
