Date Sold 5/24/2011Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Shoulder Arms, the 1918 Charles Chaplin silent World War I (WWI) military slapstick comedy ("Charles Chaplin In His Second Million Dollar Picture"; Charlie is an inept Army recruit who is sent to France, where he does not fare much better, but then he goes "over the top" and captures 13 Germans single-handed, and has other exploits with the help of a pretty Belgian girl, and he captures the Kaiser, and there is victory parade for him, but then, sadly, he wakes up from his wonderful dream) starring Charlie Chaplin, Edna Purviance, Syd Chaplin, Jack Wilson, Henry Bergman, and Albert Austin. Note that Chaplin was so incredibly popular in 1918, that First National had to pay him a million dollars per movie to lure him away from his previous studio (which was a staggering amount of money in 1918)! Naturally, they wanted to get some advertising value out of their massive expenditure, so they advertised the "A Dog's Life" (his first movie for First National) as "His First Million Dollar Comedy", and they advertised this movie as "His Second Million Dollar Picture". NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Condition: very good. There is tiny paper loss in the right of the top border and two tears in the right border, but otherwise, the card is in nice condition! Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back of the card! Learn More about condition grades
