An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded French One-Panel "Grande" Movie Poster (1p; measures 45 1/4" x 61" [115 x 155 cm]) (Learn More) L'affaire du collier de la reine (released in the U.S. as "Queen's Necklace"), the 1946 Marcel L'Herbier French historical romantic female jewel thief melodrama starring Viviane Romance, Maurice Escande, Jacques Dacqmine, Jean Hebey, and Michel Salina. Note that this movie was based on a very famous French incident that occurred in pre-Revolutionary France in the 1780s. Louis XV had an unbelievably expensive necklace made for his would-be mistress, but he died before he could give it to her, and his son, Louis XVI, tried to give it to his wife, Marie Antoinette, but she refused (likely not wanting something made for another woman). There followed an incredibly complicated plot by a notorious woman to defraud the jewelers and the Queen out of the necklace, and it failed, but the woman behind it accused the Queen of being her accomplice, and that is believed to have greatly contributed to the public's dislike of Marie Antoinette and the monarchy, and added to the reasons why the French Revolution took place in 1789!
