An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

The Gay Nighties, the 1933 Mark Sandrich hotel comedy short ("Broadway's monarchs of mirth!"; about the going-ons at a hotel during a political convention) starring Bobby Clark and Paul McCullough (the comedy team, Clark and McCullough), James Finlayson, Dorothy Granger, and John Sheehan. Note that the title was a parody on the name of the decade from 1890 to 1899 called "The Gay Nineties", and it was surprisingly naughty, but this was a pre-Code short! Also note that this was one of 22 comedy shorts that Clark & McCullough made for RKO (they had been a vaudeville comedy team, starting in 1912, and appeared on Broadway with Irving Berlin before making movies). Sadly, after making their RKO shorts, McCullough became depressed and a couple of years later committed suicide, and Clark retired from the movies, returning to Broadway, and died in 1960, at the age of 71.

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this short is incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned one example of this one-sheet from this short, 23 years ago, and the buyer of that poster has reconsigned it to us after all these years, so it is still the only example of this poster we have ever auctioned, and also the ONLY movie paper item from this movie we have ever auctioned!

Condition: good to very good. There is small circular paper loss at the bottom center of the image. There is small separation and tiny paper loss at each crossfold. There are diagonal creases in the corners and in the center of the left and right borders. After linenbacking by a talented professional, the poster will display wonderfully!
