An Undated (probably 1930s) Re-release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Three-Sheet Movie Poster (3sh; measures 41" x 81" [104 x 206 cm]) (Learn More) The Lost Jungle, the 1934 Armand Schaefer & David Howard (billed as "Dave Howard") safari action adventure serial ("The greatest aggregation of wild beasts ever assembled for a motion picture"; "A Mascot Super-Serial") starring Clyde Beatty ("World's Greatest Animal Trainer"), ("and an all-star cast") Cecilia Parker, Mickey Rooney, Syd Saylor, Warner Richmond, Edward LeSaint, Hal Taliaferro, Sammy the Killer Lion, and the Hagenbeck-Wallace wild animals! Note that Mascot did something REALLY unusual with this serial! In addition to the regular 12 chapter version, they also released a second version where the first chapter was seven reels long, and that was followed by ten regular chapters. They told theaters that they could release this second version as a serial with a feature length first chapter, or they could simply show the seven reel first chapter as a feature on its own, because it was designed to work as a stand-alone movie (and it contained footage not seen in the regular twelve chapter serial version). Also note that there is something really cool about this movie! Mickey Rooney, who was 13 years old, played a juvenile in this, and Cecilia Parker, who was 20, played the "love interest". Just three years later, they would be cast as Andy Hardy and Marion Hardy, brother and sister, in the greatest series of "family" movies ever, the Andy Hardy movies! We think it is highly unlikely it is from the movie's first release, because it does not mention "serial" anywhere on it, and we know that many Mascot pictures were re-released in the late 1930s, so we suspect it is from a re-release around that time, and possibly as a "feature" version. However, Mickey Rooney is low-billed and because he became very famous just a couple years after this film was first released, we would expect a re-release to take advantage of that fame and give him a higher billing on the poster. If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had paper loss at some crossfolds and some creases, tears, and paper loss on many parts of some foldlines, more so in the right vertical foldline, and it had pinholes, tears, and paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
