An Undated (probably late 1930s or early 1940s) Re-Release Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 38 1/4" [69 x 97 cm]) (Learn More) Burn 'Em Up Barnes, the 1934 Colbert Clark & Armand Schaefer car racing sports action adventure inheritance crime serial ("Sizzling Speed - Nerves of Steel -"; "Mascot Super-Serial in 12 thrill-inspiring chapters!"; about a woman who inherits a lot of land she believes is worthless, but it has a ton of oil under it and is worth a fortune, and bad guys try to get it away from her, but fortunately, a race car driver, and the teen son of his best friend who was killed in a crash, are there to make sure that doesn't happen) starring Frankie Darro, Jack Mulhall (in the title role as "Burn-'em Up" Barnes), Lola Lane, Edwin Maxwell, and Jason Robards Sr. Note that it would seem that Lola Lane and Jack Mulhall were the stars of this movie, but Frankie Darro got billing over both of them, likely because he had the most impressive resume of the three, and was the biggest "draw"! Also note this serial was edited down to a feature length, and was shown in theaters that did not want to run the entire serial. The items from the feature version have "A MASCOT FEATURE" where the chapter titles were on the serial items. We list items from the feature version separately from the serial version. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that examples of this poster have been mistakenly sold as original 1934 releases. Mascot Pictures owner Nat Levine re-released most of his early 1930s serials in either the late 1930s or 1940s, and he used the same plates, which is the cause of the confusion. But the re-releases are two-color, while the originals (which are extremely scarce and are virtually never offered for sale) are full-color. Also note that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 27" x 38 1/4" [69 x 97 cm]. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: poor to fair. The poster had approximately 3" trimmed from the bottom and it also had its other borders trimmed off. It had tears and areas of paper loss along the vertical fold and a lesser amount on the horizontal folds. Overall, the poster was in poor condition prior to linenbacking. The person who backed the poster apparently did not want to re-create the entire bottom area, so they added "MASCOT SUPER SERIAL" to the bottom of what remained of the image (mis-writing the "E" of "SUPER"), and they restored the rest of the image that was present, and they left it at that. While the poster could be displayed and enjoyed as it is, it has significant defects and is missing the bottom of the image and the correct writing at the bottom, so do not bid unless you can accept these significant defects.
