An Original Vintage Linenbacked French [War] Poster (measures 34 1/2" x 48 3/4" [88 x 124 cm]) (Learn More) Fetes de la Presse Parisienne Pour Le Soldats de Madagascar (literally translates to "Parisian Press Festival For The Soldiers Of Madagascar"), the 1895 French charity war poster announcing an event to benefit French soldiers, and featuring art of a woman with a drum and soldiers in the background. Based on the date, this event took place during the Franco-Hova Wars (or Franco-Malagasy Wars) which were two French military interventions in Madagascar between 1883 and 1896 that overthrew the ruling monarchy of the Merina Kingdom, and resulted in Madagascar becoming a French colony. Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had creases and tiny scuffs along parts of most folds, with a small stain in the bottom right blank corner. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. Note that either the restorer who mounted the poster did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster, or possibly the owner of the poster chose to carefully trim off the excess, so that the poster would fit in a frame.
