De Katjes (literally translates to "The Cats"), the 1898 Theophile Alexandre Steinlen Dutch illustrated children's book featuring art and stories related to felines. It was published as a "children's" book and has stories about cats with illustrations by Steinlen. Theophile Alexandre Steinlen was a Swiss-born French Art Nouveau painter and printmaker from the 1890s to the 1920s. He was politically engaged and often collaborated with anarchist and socialist media. One of his favorite subjects was cats and today he may be best known for the poster that he created for Le Chat Noir (The Black Cat) cabaret.
