Werker detective mystery crime thriller sequel ("Based on the play 'Sherlock Holmes' by William Gillette with the permission of the executors of the late Sir Arthur Conan Doyle") starring Basil Rathbone (in the title role as Sherlock Holmes), Nigel Bruce (as Dr. Watson), Ida Lupino, Alan Marshal, Terry Kilburn, George Regas, Henry Stephenson, and E.E. Clive. Note that this is the second Basil Rathbone & Nigel Bruce Sherlock Holmes movie, and it was released by 20th Century Fox, as was their first film, "The Hound of the Baskervilles". Important Added Info: Note that this lobby card has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the lobby card was backed onto a very light paper backing (acid-free), that keeps the "feel" of the lobby card similar to that of the original lobby card. Some restorers prefer to paperback lobby cards on to a heavy backing, while others prefer to use a very lightweight backing. The advantage of a lightweight backing is that the card still "feels" like a regular lobby card, but a heavier backing makes restoration easier to do and less noticeable. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. Prior to paperbacking, the card's blank borders had been trimmed off and there were pinholes in each corner of the image, with some smudges in the corners and a tear in the top left corner and a small tear in the middle of the right, in the background area. Other than these defects, the lobby card was in pretty nice condition prior to paperbacking. Someone located the borders from another card (likely a lesser scene from the set), and they "married" the borders from that other card to the trimmed card, thus completing it. The borders include the small writing at bottom, and it is absolutely the correct writing from this great card. You can see slight signs of the restoration in the borders and in the corners, but the card displays really well (see our image). Learn More about condition grades
