Kennedy for President, the 1968 poster advertising for the political Presidential campaign for then New York Senator, Robert F. Kennedy (the younger brother of President John F. Kennedy) who was assassinated shortly after beginning his run for the Presidency. The poster has tiny writing in the bottom left corner that reads "KENNEDY FOR PRESIDENT, 2000 L STREET, WASHINGTON, D.C., CHAIRMAN: JOSEPH GARGAN", with a tiny union label next to it. It is especially sad that Mr. Kennedy was assassinated, because not only did he not become President (and he was almost a certainty to become the Democratic presidential candidate), but also, his assassination altered who the Republican candidate was! What do we mean? The Republican party did not want a repeat of the 1960 election, with another "Kennedy/Nixon" election, fearing that Nixon would surely lose to the charismatic Bobby Kennedy, and so many within the Republican party were strongly advocating Nelson Rockefeller as the Republican candidate, with the slogans "Rocky can win." and "Rocky has never lost an election." as digs against Nixon, who had both lost in 1960 for President, and in 1962 for Governor of California, and they felt he couldn't win, but then Bobby Kennedy was assassinated, and it then became far more reasonable for Nixon to be nominated, and he was, and he became President! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had tears, scuffing, and darkening across the bottom 1" (a snipe might have been attached to that area) and there was a 3" tear in the top right, extending into the "dy" of "Kennedy". There was some faint staining in the background to the right of Kennedy's ear and cheek. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see clearly signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Learn More about condition grades
