An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More)

Abbott and Costello Meet the Invisible Man, the 1951 Charles Lamont science fiction (sci-fi) fantasy screwball horror comedy ("It's all New and a Riot too!"; "Hair raising! Howl raising! Hilarity!"; "You'll shiver... You'll shudder... You'll shout with laughter!"; incredibly loosely based on the classic novel by H.G. Wells) starring Bud Abbott, Lou Costello (Abbott and Costello), Nancy Guild, Adele Jergens, Arthur Franz (in the title role as the Invisible Man, Tommy Nelson), William Frawley, Sheldon Leonard, and Paul Maxey. Note that Costello is a detective in this movie, and he wears a deerstalker hat and smokes a pipe, in an obvious hommage to Sherlock Holmes!

Condition: very good. This poster was linenbacked, and one of the following is true: either the restorer did a good job, but you can see signs of the restoration from inches away (since most people look at posters framed on a wall from at least a few feet away, we don't feel this is a defect, but we feel it should be noted). OR you can't see the restoration because it was so well done, but the poster had fairly significant defects. OR no restoration was performed, but the defects are not major, and restoration could be done to the poster without re-backing it. See below for its pre-restoration defects (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!).

Poster had creases and some tears on some foldlines, and paper loss at the crossfolds. It had minor smudges and creases. The poster had missing pieces and tears in the blank borders, and the person who did the restoration put new blank white paper over all the borders to even out the appearance (but the small writing at the bottom of the poster was not covered over). This is a common technique used by several top restorers. It is done so well that the majority of collectors are not even aware it has been done, and many do not feel it to be a significant detraction (since it is only blank white area). Overall, the poster is well linenbacked, and the restored defects are not very noticeable.
