Double-Barreled Action!"; "Double-dame trouble on his hands... and a murder mob at his throat!"; "One's out to frame him... the other to tame him!"; "With 3 famous 'finds' from 'The Lost Weekend'"; "Written by Raymond Chandler"; "Produced by John Houseman"; Ladd is a veteran just back from the war who finds his wife having an affair, and she is murdered, and he is naturally the lead suspect; he gets the ex-wife of his wife's new lover, played by Lake, to help him, and together they solve the crime) starring Alan Ladd, Veronica Lake, William Bendix, Howard da Silva, Doris Dowling, Frank Faylen, Tom Powers, Vera Marshe, Hugh Beaumont, and Walter Sande. Note that while many of Raymond Chandler's works were adapted to movies, this was the only one that Chandler wrote directly as a movie! Also note that by 1946, Alan Ladd had become a very top star, so on the advertising for this movie, his image dominates the posters, with Veronica Lake in the background, whereas when "This Gun For Hire" was released 4 years earlier, Ladd was pretty unknown, and Lake dominates the advertising for that movie (although Ladd does appear on the posters)! Also, note that a year after this film was released, a woman was murdered and newspapers dubbed it "The Black Dahlia" case in a morbid twist on this film's title. "Linenbacking" is a process that is used to preserve movie posters (the best restorers de-acidify the poster during the restoration process), and to make them far easier to display (it is much easier and less expensive to frame a linenbacked poster). When linenbacking is done correctly, it adds to the value of the poster, and is NOT a defect! Note that the specific poster in this auction either was not linenbacked all that well, OR the poster had more significant defects that were well corrected or both (you can tell which type it is by reading our written comments about the poster's condition). In general, know that we received many of the linenbacked posters we are currently selling already linenbacked, but we have examined every poster EXTREMELY carefully, and we did our best to describe what condition the poster was in PRIOR to restoration, the defects the poster had PRIOR to restoration (in the "Pre-Restoration Defects & Quality of Restoration" section), any unrestored defects, and, when it seemed worth noting, something about the quality of the restoration itself. Many other auction houses claim to match what we do in this area, but EVERY person who regularly buys movie posters from major auctions can tell you this is just not the case! We never intentionally overgrade a single item, we never "accidentally" miss defects, and we never enhance a single image! Condition: good to very good. The top 1 1/2" was trimmed off, including all of the blank border and a small portion of the dark background area. The poster was tattered in the other three borders. There were some tiny dots of paper loss scattered down the vertical foldline and a lesser amount of wear on the horizontal folds. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and while you can see slight signs of the border restoration, the image area had little restoration and looks great! Learn More about condition grades
