Artist: Roger Kastel Important Added Info: Note that this is a set of 5 acetate progressive proofs for the "Gone with the Wind" style of the Empire Strikes Back one-sheet. Printers would prepare proofs like this printed on sheets of acetate, with each color on a separate sheet. When they were laid all on top of each other, you can see the entire poster as it appears, and if any changes are desired, they can be made by marking the individual sheets, and that way a poster can be "proofed" without actually printing test posters, which can be a huge savings of money! In the case of this set of progressive proofs, there is a VERY interesting difference from a regular set! Normally, there are four acetate sheets, one for each color (yellow, red, blue, and black), but in this case, there is a fifth sheet, with silver. Why? We can't say for certain, but because we have seen a "Darth Vader" style one-sheet that has a "white title" (as opposed to the regular silver title), we can make a very educated guess as to what occurred. It seems extremely likely that both posters were originally intended to have a white title. Apparently, someone saw the Vader style and decided it would look better with a silver title, and that is what all the Vader style one-sheets have (with the exception of a single poster that has a white title, which we are currently auctioning, and which came from an NSS employee, apparently from a test run of the poster). So that information tells us that it is very likely that after they decided to change the Vader style to a silver title, someone thought "how about changing the GWTW style to a silver title too?". That would exactly explain why there is a fifth sheet of acetate that has solely a silver title, and which is laid over the regular four sheets. It seems that someone must have looked at this and then said "no, it looks better with the white title", and they abandoned that idea (which is reinforced by the fact that all existing GWTW style one-sheets do have the white title. So not only is this a really rare and cool set of progressive proofs, but it also is a very important piece of Star Wars trivia, showing that this poster might well have had a silver title had someone had a different opinion once they looked at this! Condition: very good. The five acetate sheets are joined at the top with tape and there is a blank white sheet behind them. There is some very minor wear around the edges of the acetate sheets, and a small stain in the middle of the left border of the white backing sheet and someone once held the five acetate sheets together with a tiny piece of tape at bottom center, which left slight staining. These are very minor defects that don't in any way interfere with this really cool "one of a kind" Star Wars collectible! Learn More about condition grades
