An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 26 1/2" x 40 1/2") (Learn More) Hostages, the 1943 Frank Tuttle World War II (WWII) military war-time Nazi Germany Czechoslovakia suspense thriller ("Girls taken captive by the Nazis"; "Hitler's men 'purge' each other as the forces of vengeance fill them with terror"; "She had a way of getting a man's secret that the Gestapo couldn't use"; "The Hun Is On The Run!"; "Right out of Hitler's cracking 'Fortress Europe'"; "The sensational best seller - NOW on the screen!"; "Read by millions as a book, Reader's Digest choice ... now it hits the screen with shattering impact!"; "From the Novel by Stefan Heym"; "Screen Play by Lester Cole and Frank Butler"; about a Nazi-occupied village in Czechoslovakia, where a Nazi officer commits suicide, and the Germans hold the villagers responsible, and they arrest 26 of them and hold them as hostages, and the movie has a tragic ending, which was intended to inspire audiences into being more patriotic) starring Luise Rainer (in her last Hollywood movie), Arturo de Cordova, William Bendix, Paul Lukas, Katina Paxinou, and Oscar Homolka NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: fair to good. The poster was very slightly trimmed on its blank borders, and measures 26 1/2" x 40 1/2". It had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds, some minor wear on the foldlines. There were pinholes and some small areas of surface paper loss and some light staining scattered through the image, and some creases, tears, and areas of paper loss in the borders. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was not that well backed, both because the restorer did little restoration to the border areas, and did not re-create the missing parts of the blank borders, and because the restorer used a white restoration paint on some of the areas in the lower part of the poster that is quite noticeable.
